Is This Fair?

I just took my NY road test for my license. I failed by 5 points. You need 30 points or under to pass and I had 35. One mistake is when I had to parallel park. At first I was too far from the curb. The instructor told me "can you get closer to the curb?" I fixed it and then was fine. He still took 5 points off for that even though I fixed it. Is this fair? My mom wants to file a complaint especially since I'll be starting college soon with most likely no car.

Yep...sure is. You need to do it correctly. By the way...life isn't fair. When I got my license the instructor could fail you for any reason....no point system was involved. if he didn't like your looks he could fail you...take your test again and get on with your life.

The Driving Examiners have to adhere to strict guidelines when taking people on road tests. The Government sets these standards.

If you failed the test, then try again soon!

Usually you have three chances to parallel park successfully. The law usually requires you to park within about 18 inches of the curb, no more than that. When the examiner asked if you could "fix" it, you were already too far from the curb and would have not done it properly.....hence the loss of 5 points. Parallel parking is a "backing test" to see that you can control your car in REVERSE gear.

What about all those other people who did parallel parking well on their tests. Should they get EXTRA points, seeing as you want special treatment too?

Make an appointment for another test. You'll probably do well and pass then.

Oh, and YES I do think it's fair that you lost 5 points for having to FIX your parallel park. If you file a complaint, it won't get past the first phone call. That's life darlin......just deal with it, get over it, and take another test.

Here's the thing.. Yes it's fair and reason why... Your taking a driving test, you got too far from the curb, you had to be asked to move it closer... In the instructor's eyes he felt like if you was by yourself and parking on the city street, you would have left car like you 1st parked it... With being too far from the curb, your car then would have been sticking into the road some and could cause a wreck..



Your Mom has NO RIGHT what so ever to fail a complaint on something like that, and really I wish you would let her read my reply..



Moms, Dads, gov, law makers, cops, etc are all preaching teen/1st time driver's safty.. Well it starts at home.. Teach your kid how to drive right, park right, and there will be NO probs with kids wrecking, deaths in car crashes, etc from kids acting like a fool while driving, or not fully knowing how to drive..



Your Mom should be happy that the failed you...It could have saved your life.. I myself feel you need to go over the safty of driving alittle more with your mom and maybe more hours on the road with her in car with you.

Well I don't see it fair that your Mom is complaining that you failed the test. After all you are a human ( I suppose you are not a republican!) What does your mom wants you to be ? A perfect?? Nothing is perfect honey. Go and fail test as many times as you want. Its your right and not a crime. Don't worry about college. You can take a year or two off easily.

YES it is very fair!

I have driven everything from Go karts to B-Double semis (up to 26 meters long) and it is people like you that JUST pass their driving tests that cause accidents.

In my opinion go and find a driving instructor that will teach you how to DRIVE not just how to pass the test.



As an advanced driving instructor told us on our course :



" You will not kill your self on the road, every other moron will give it a f&%$ing good go"



So learn to drive and pass your test and be safe on the road.

If I do the math with the numbers you listed in your question, it tells me you did 6 other things wrong.



A test is a test. If you "fixed" your answer after taking finals would your teacher give you credit for it? I doubt it.

LIFE IS NOT FAIR....AND NOW YOU HAVE LEARNED THAT(THE HARD WAY).

Get used to it. Things do not always go how you want. It is a test. If you are wrong, you are wrong. Practice and retake the test. It sounds like you had many other mistakes......learn from your mistakes and you will do well the next time. Good Luck
