In some cars, it means the seats have real animal leather on the seating surfaces, and vinyl on the rear, lower trim and maybe the side pieces.
Saves cost and looks like 100% leather.

I'm sure that if they say leather, it would be leather. I do know some manufactures use what seems to be known as leatherette. This may be real hard to find on the car you want, though. Leather is considered a luxury feature, so it's standard on many higher-end cars.
