To make gasoline ignite you need heat. After the hammer hits the bullet, igniting the gun powder, which pushes the bullet out of the shell then you just have a tiny hunk of metal moving very very fast through the air. When it hits the gas tank it just pokes a whole through it.
No spark, no heat, not boom boom.

probobly because the only explosion in firing a gun is when the hammer hits the primer of the cartridge.and that only lasts in the barrel.so if you want to blow a car up like that hold the barrel about an inch above the gas pointing at it then fire.not recommended to do.
