When you are putting fuel in, a certain amount of gas vapor comes out of the tank. It is the vapor that is flammable.

Gas vapor is heavier than air, so it settles down on the cement. If you have an exposed spark, like from an old spark plug wire, it could ignite. Big BOOM!!

Ok Think about it. You are pumping a flammable liquid into your vehicles holding tank. Now your vehicle will run fine, there is no reason it wouldn't, but on some, if you run your vehicle with the gas cap off it will set the check engine code off, and then you will have to go and get it reset est. $30.00. Then if something does happen to your vehicle while pumping gas, like a spark plug comes off and egnites the feul the whole gas station will be on fire. Now if your vehicle was off this wouldn't have happened. Something to think about.

nothing will happen, just make sure you dont sit back down in the vehicle, while gas is pumping,
