When did the seat belt law go into effect in California?

Question

Is there a site that tells when seat belt laws went into effect in each state? Or can you tell me when California's seat belt law began? I found out this morning that all states except NH have laws regarding seat belts, but I was also wondering how long we've had to buckle up here.

I remember not having to wear them at all when I was a kid. I think I also remember that when the laws first started only those in the front had to wear one...I think.

About a year and a half ago,and I have gotten 1 $88 dollar ticket since....and my bf 2 $88 dollar tickets........buckle up or pay through the nose
