Once the fuel warning light comes on, anywhere from 8 to 15 liters left in the tank. With the accord, it's about 15 liters x about 8 km/liters, that's 120 km. Better to refill once the fuel light comes on.

This is known as the "stupid level". You'll get some reasonably sounding answer here and trust it. Then you'll find out just how stupid you are to think that you can go 5 more miles when the gauge reads empty. If there is a woman with you in the car, you'll hear the second reason it's called the "stupid level".

every car i haved tested will run 50 kms after the fuel gauge light appears to allow sufficient distance to get to a gas station

Don't test it. It doesn't cost any different to fill up when it's getting kinda low, as opposed to filling up when it's running on fumes.
