Depends on where you live but for the most part they are illegal to some degree.
Some states allow them on only when the vehicle is parked but not while the vehicle is driven.
The two colors that you need to stay away from will be blue and red, those are only for emergency vehicles.
Call your local department of motor vehicles and ask them before you do anything and good luck................

It is illegal lighting for a reason... You can have it on while your parked but drive with it on and your basically giving any cop probable cause to stop and harass you any time they want... why would you want that?... The purpose is to blend in and NOT draw attention to yourself.....
You'll learn one day...

It depends on the State, but I'm going to assume that they are illegal all over. The reason being that they don't subscribe to any national standards as all other required lighting on vehicles.
I know for a fact, in NY, where I live & work, undercarriage lights are illegal and if I see them, I will stop you and summons you for that any anything else I can find.
The only way they can be legal is if you use them on a vehicle NOT being driven on a public roadway.
Also, you will not have any recourse against the company/store that sold them to you becuase all of the "extra" accessories that most people buy for their cars/motorcycles have a very, very small disclaimer somewhere on the package that reads something like this:
".....is a novelty item and is not meant for public highway use. Check with your local police before installing..."
