the safest car is the one with the best driver.
that being said, i consider braking ability and handling better safety features than passive systems (airbags.)
if you look far ahead and have a good sense of spatial awareness, you can see emergencies unfolding giving you time to find a way out.
people like big utes beacuse they can see better (despite the fact they don't look past the end of their hood) and when they plow into smaller cars because they were surprised that traffic stopped (visibility) physics takes over.
to summerize, if you don't want to learn to drive, drive something big so the weak survive.
if you do know how to drive, drive something nimble to avoid the SUV obstacles. if you think you can drive, you probably don't. if you have never taken a high performance driving school on a proper race track with qualified instructors, you can't drive.
i though i could drive when i graduated high school. i was shown otherwise by some instructors.
you will learn more about driving in one weekend at the track than you ever thought there was to know about driving.
