Where I live, the winters have been very inconsistent in the past couple of decades. Sometimes they have been brutal with tons of snow and ice, other times mild with only a few bad snow days through the season. So I never know what I will encounter.

I do a fair bit of driving.

Are snow tires worth the money?

And what are the best brands?

Winter Tires are designed to deliver safety and control in snow, ice, and cold weather conditions. Many people think that all-season tires can deliver this same performance, but this is not true. The superior traction that winter tires deliver, as much as a 25 to 50 percent increase over all-season tires, can very well be the margin you need to stop in time or turn to avoid trouble..

First, I never have too much trouble driving in snow and ice with good all season tires. I have thought about getting snow tires but I decided that I don't want to spend the extra money on them.

You are concerned about your safety and spending some money to make your car safe is a good idea. So go ahead and get snow tires (just make sure you get another set of rims for them). Some day you will be glad you got them and who knows maybe they could have prevented you from getting in an accident. People sell used snow tires on craigslist.org. Other places to get them is from tirerack.com

I think snow tires are definitely worth the money. Even on dry roads in cold weather, all-seasons can become ineffective. I have Nokian Hakkepeliittas on my car, and they work great.

If you don't want to invest in a set of winter tires, and you are planning to replace your all-seasons soon, you might consider something like the Nokian WRs, or WRG2s, which are "all-weather" tires that are rated for snow and ice and suitable for winter driving.

Yes winter tires are definitely worth buying if winter gets pretty extreme in your area. I have personally tested the difference between all season tires and winter tires. You will automatically notice the difference. However Winter tires may wear super fast if you keep them on during a hot Summer. Due to the compound of the tires they will waste a lot faster in warmer weathers. Most people will have them dismounted and then remounted again next winter. It is good to keep 2 sets of tires if you have hot Summers and really icy Winters.

Continental makes very good and economical winter tires.

The extremely Grip is a great wintry climate tire in spite of the undeniable fact that there are extra effective ones obtainable. Bridgestone Blizzak, Continental extreme wintry climate touch or Michelin X-Ice2 are all tires that could desire to be greater on my very own procuring record however the Goodyears will extremely get the pastime completed. maximum wintry climate tires - a minimum of the super call manufacturers - are incredibly good. no longer being Canadian i won't be able to tell you what form of a cost you're turning out to be on your money and don't comprehend in case you have priced any of those different manufacturers.

modern snow tires are definitely worth it, they're a lot better than most all-seasons. you really only need 2 of them(front for front wheel drive, rear for rear wheel drive, etc), so it's definitely worth the cash considering the price of sliding off the road or into a parked car. i have Pirellis on my car right now, they have pretty good grip in snow/ice.

You bet they are worth it. Specially if you have them installed with the ice traction studs. The Brand depends on what type of tires you have on now and their size. Or how much you are willing to shell out .
